On 6th Feb 2018, SNV in partnership with Practica Foundation, carried out a training on the use, assembly and installation of the rota sprayer in preparation of the ongoing Rota sprayer pilot. It was done on Richard’s farm in Naivasha subcounty, Nakuru County. The training was attended by 30 farmers from Nakuru, Machakos, Meru, Laikipia, Uasin Gishu, Nyeri and Narok Counties (These are the farmers who were selected to host and use the rotasprayers for piloting).
SNV/Practica Foundation also collaborated with the Nakuru County Agriculture department with four officials participating in the training.
The Rotasprayer has been developed in response to the need for an automatic water delivery system for solar irrigation pumps. The design criteria were as follows: • Economically viable (low cost, short pay-back time, long service life) • Requiring a minimum of pressure • good uniformity of water distribution • Practical and easy to use • Low complexity
The pilot is intended to find out any possible modifications necessitated by the target farmers and the market potential of the sprayers. The ultimate intention is to have an improved version of the sprayer after which it will be introduced into the Kenyan market.
