F4W partners Water for Life and the Frisian Urban Sanitation Program constructed 8 water towers and 12 toilet blocks at 18 primary schools in the central region of Mozambique.
The schools with a total amount of 51.936 students received a total of 62 toilet blocks in the 1st phase of the F4W program. Since then some of the schools had an enormous increase in students which made it necessary to add 8 extra toilet blocks with each 2 toilets and an urinal for the boys, 3 toilets for the girls and hand washing facilities. At the 4 biggest schools separate toilets for the teachers were introduced. To guarantee water supply during the whole day 8 schools received a water tower. Water is used for drinking, hand washing and cleaning school infrastructure, including the toilets.
In March all infrastructure was handed over to the school which organized festive ceremonies. The event got attention from media that broadcasted on the national television and radio. Tjitske Saskia Leemans, Chimoio, Mozambique
